Two staff members from the Center for Career Services have been honored by the New York State School Boards Association for their efforts in leading the Emergency Medical Services program.
EMS instructor Robert Del Greco and assistant Anchelle Allen were recognized as Champions of Change at the Jan. 14, 2026 meeting of the Southern Westchester BOCES Board of Education. The recognition program highlights BOCES programs and initiatives that bring positive, meaningful change to the students, communities and districts of New York.
They were presented with a banner by SWBOCES trustee Sheryl Brady, who is the Area 10 Director for NYSSBA.
“It was great to receive this award, especially when it’s something you are not expecting to get,” said Del Greco, who has led the EMS program for five years. “It was nice to be recognized as a program for trying to be creative in our approach to the material. We’re trying to produce the best possible students we can and have them prepared for jobs.”
Mr. Del Greco and Ms. Allen were selected by the NYSSBA, which reviews news items that highlight the success of programs throughout the state. Mr. Del Greco said being recognized as Champions of Change served as a reminder of the evolution of the EMS program.
“When I came to Career Services five years ago, it was a great opportunity to build something different than what I was doing at Westchester Community College,” he said. “I think we’ve done that.”
Ms. Allen was among those who have felt the inspiration. She arrived nearly four years ago after previously working as a one-to-one aide in Greenburgh, but has since been inspired to pursue certification as an EMT — just like students in the program. She is scheduled to take a certification exam later this month.
“Overall, this has been a very interesting journey,” Ms. Allen said. “I already liked helping people. Just seeing our students do the work in class and actually having an opportunity to participate in some ride-alongs myself, I’ve been able to see myself doing this, too.”
