Educators from multiple districts—including Yorktown, Hastings, White Plains, and Ossining—gathered on April 9 for LHRIC’s Alternative Learning Solutions Symposium to explore ways to better support students who learn outside traditional classroom models. Mary Lynn Collins-Callanan, manager of instructional technology, opened the event by encouraging participants to examine innovative approaches and available tools.
Representatives from educational platforms like Imagine Learning, FlexPoint, Educere, and Edmentum led discussions on topics such as credit recovery, tutoring, and distance learning, helping educators evaluate options for diverse student needs.
Teachers and counselors shared their perspectives and experiences. Christina Fink emphasized her long-standing commitment to alternative learning methods, while Steven Chetcuti highlighted hands-on approaches, including a project where students 3D print parts of a 1969 Camaro. Kristen Soni discussed Yorktown’s FlexPath program, which adapts to students when traditional models fall short.

Overall, the symposium reinforced a central message: there is no one-size-fits-all solution—different students require different learning approaches.
