SWBOCES Pocantico Students Bid Farewell to Classmates Moving on to Irvington

Two Sixth-Graders Will Attend Irvington Program Next Year

During an end-of-the-year awards and moving-up ceremony, Southern Westchester BOCES teachers and students at Pocantico Hills School wished two sixth-graders farewell as they move on to middle school.

Principal Jessica Walker gave moving-up certificates to Spencer Hanson and Gabriel Henley, who will advance to the SWBOCES middle school program at Irvington High School.

“They are sixth-graders and are both moving up and moving on next year as they will transition to our program at Irvington,” she said. “One has been with us for quite a while and one for just a few months. They have both done an excellent job and I know they’re going to do a beautiful job in middle school.”

SWBOCES teachers gave a special award to each student for achievement and growth during the school year.

“I want you to know how proud I am of each and every one of you, and all your teachers and all your staff are very proud of the work you’ve done this year and all your efforts,” Principal Walker said, directing students to give themselves a round of applause.

Academic awards included outstanding improvement in all academics, achievement in reading, improvement in English language arts, excellence in science and social studies, excellence in technology, achievement in math, most improved in reading, most improved in math, superior achievement in the arts, excellence in musical achievement and more.

Other students were recognized for good citizenship, excellence in creativity and best attendance. About 10 students received awards for achieving the program’s goals of safety, respect and accountability throughout the school year.

The highlight of the ceremony was a slideshow of photos from the school year. It was set to the popular “This is Me” song from “The Greatest Showman.”
