Cosmetology Students Visit New York's Biggest Beauty Expo

Cosmetology students from the SWBOCES Center for Career Services had the chance to experience one of the beauty industry’s biggest events in New York City March 6, a coming together of salon professionals, students and others who flock to the Jacob Javits Convention Center each year to avail of the event’s free educational sessions and to discover the latest and greatest skin, hair and nail care products.

Mia Acocella, a first-year cosmetology student from New Rochelle High School, said she was excited to be at the event. Both she and her classmates Adriana Massaro, also of New Rochelle High School, and Alysa Rainaldi of Rye Neck High School remained together as they took a tour of the large convention space.

The area was chock full of vendors and haircare professionals conducting seminars and hands-on demonstrations. Some of them included Aquage, Babyliss PRO, Crown PRO, Denman, Inc., Joewell, Passion Beauty, Inc., Rusk, Sugarlash PRO and more.

Stopping at the Borboleta Beauty table, representative Anvi gave the students some good career advice.

“Think of finding something you can specialize in, be it hair extensions, microblading or whatever,” he told them. “Find a way to stand out.”
