DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Director:
Cheryl Fitzgibbons
The SW BOCES Transportation Department has a fleet of 70 school vehicles with an average age of 4.5 years. This fleet is maintained by ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)-certified mechanics. Each school vehicle is inspected by the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) twice a year. The inspection passing rate for our vehicles is exemplary with all fleets ranging between 95% and 100%. All school buses are radio-equipped and maintain contact with the Transportation Office at all times.
SW BOCES school bus drivers have an average of more than seven years of service. All have received the training mandated by the New York State Education Department. In addition, all participate in a minimum of six hours of safety training a year. At SW BOCES, we set our own standards for the development of our employees, exceeding those set by the NYSED by 50 percent or more.
Our transportation staff works tirelessly to ensure that a total team effort results in the best possible safety and service for students. During the 2003 calendar year, BOCES drivers drove school vehicles more than one million miles, transporting more than 800 students daily, including 280 with disabilities.
The SW BOCES Transportation Department is committed to providing safe, reliable, cost-efficient school transportation services for districts, and operates at the highest standards within the industry.
