State PR Association releases annual awards list
SWBOCES communications team takes six honors in statewide contest
The New York State School PR Association released its 2017 list of award recipients in its 38th Annual Communications Contest.
The Southern Westchester BOCES Office of Public Information took six awards for its work promoting the students and programs of our centers and component districts.
Public Relations Specialist Colette Connolly received an Award of Excellence for Excellence in Writing for her piece, "Alum's Passion Shows in Mini Cheesecake Creations," about Culinary Arts graduate Henry McCants, who opened a shop in White Plains.
Public Relations Specialist Natalia Baage-Lord was honored twice for her work on behalf of the Valhalla school district. Ms. Baage-Lord received an Award of Honor for Excellence in Writing for "Cross Country Standout Athlete Makes 'Triple Impact'", about a scholar-athlete who was named a finalist in the Triple Impact Competitor Scholarship. She was also honored in the Electronic Newsletter category for producing the "Valhalla Voyages" e-newsletter.
Director of Communications Brian Howard was recognized in the Social Media category for his work on behalf of Port Chester Schools. The social media campaign around the district's successful capital projects proposal earlier this year was instrumental in sharing information and engaging residents with regard to the plan.
Mr. Howard was also recognized in the Electronic Newsletter category for "Careers Central," a monthly e-newsletter around the students and programs of SWBOCES' Center for Career Services, and in the Video category for a piece on Career Services students' collaboration with the Town of Greenburgh to restore the town's 9/11 Memorial Wall.
"I am proud of the work our team does every day promoting the students and programs of our centers and partner districts," Mr. Howard said. "The recognition of our peers, however, is greatly appreciated."
NYSPRA will showcase winning contest entries with an awards luncheon at the New York State School Boards Association convention in Lake Placid next month.
