Tappan Hill Students Learn about Indian Holiday that Celebrates Spring

Children Tie Dye Shirts, Parade around School to Mark Indian Color Festival

On Monday, March 13, Denise Hurvitz’s class at Southern Westchester BOCES' Tappan Hill School enjoyed participating in Holi, the day India celebrates the coming of spring with the splashing of color. The class learned what the day means to the people of India and made connections to how Americans celebrate the day. Prior to the day of Holi, students splashed colored glitter on cut-out body shapes. They worked with colored liquids to tie dye shirts that they wore on the day of Holi. The class paraded around the school during the day while wishing everyone a colorful (Holi) day.
