TV/Video Production
The SWBOCES TV/Video Production Program is an exciting initiative that spans two years, giving students an opportunity to work not only on high-tech equipment, but to learn about the industry through interesting and creative projects. During the first year, students learn about the technological aspects of audio, video, analog, and digital technology, and are given a basic orientation to the on-site campus studio, which includes an introduction to camera and editing skills. Much of the course is hands-on and during the first year, students are required to produce projects that include a talk show, a public service announcement, and a poem. These exercises provide students with a chance to work with lighting, special effects and sound, in addition to writing scripts, casting and research. First-year skills are further developed in the second year, when students produce a one-minute narrative film, a second talk show, and a 30-second commercial. Students spend this year developing their skills in post-production editing and on-location shoots.
Students develop their own portfolios of work, paying particular attention to technical and creative standards. As required by the New York State Education Department, this program integrates the English Language Arts and Math/Science/Technology standards through written assignments and hands-on technical practice.
