Computer Information Technology
The two-year Computer Information Technology Program provides students with the tools they need to succeed in today’s fast-paced society. Using the Microsoft Office Basics package, students become proficient in Windows XP, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint. During the first year, students learn basic and advanced skills such as keyboarding, formatting worksheets, working with pictures and charts, planning/designing databases, integrating programs, and importing and exporting data. In the second year, students focus more intently on the integration of Microsoft programs to create presentations and reports, with particular emphasis on the advanced features of PowerPoint. Students also develop proficiency in FrontPage, which includes instruction in creating web sites, importing text, and editing images as well as training leading to MOS certification.
The Computer Information Technology Program integrates English Language Arts, math, science, and technology standards, as required by the New York State Education Department. Throughout the course, students routinely complete written assignments, including reports and presentations, in addition to creating publications such as flyers, newsletters and brochures. Emphasis is also placed upon job skill development and resume writing.
