Automotive Collision and Refinishing Technology

Career Tech Students who take the Automotive Collision and Refinishing Technology Program will acquire valuable experience in the repair and restoration of damaged vehicles. Geared toward the student who is detail-oriented and has a love of cars, this two-year program exposes students to a working garage/classroom and covers such topics as removing dents, welding metal, mixing paints and finishes, diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, and realigning suspension systems. The course includes lessons on safety issues and the proper use of hand and power tools. While students restore and repair automobiles, they learn to identify vehicle parts and information labels. Throughout the course, students are required to maintain a portfolio and a journal of their experiences in the program.

The program complies with the New York State Education Department’s English Language Arts standards through note-taking, written assignments, reflecting orally on experiences, and computer use.
