BOCES Career Services Recognizes Graduates
Hundreds of graduates and proud family members turned out to the June 14 th Recognition Ceremony held for high school seniors enrolled in classes at the Southern Westchester BOCES Center for Career Services.
The students, most of whom have been enrolled in the BOCES career and technical education classes for the past two years, earned certificates of completion in the Ceremony, which was held at the Westchester County Center. BOCES classes take place at the Career Services campus in Valhalla.
SWBOCES District Superintendent Ronald L. Smalls addressed the graduates and thanked them for their "principles, passion and participation" while completing their studies in a variety of fields, including culinary arts, commercial art, fashion design, cosmetology, and office skills. "I applaud you for never giving up," said Mr. Smalls.
Of the more than 200 graduates of the BOCES programs, some 75 students are eligible
to receive technical endorsements on their high school Regents diplomas, signifying that
they have successfully completed diploma requirements and attained technical occupational
skills.
Eileen Bloom, supervisor of the BOCES GED programs, also noted that 100 percent of this year's GED students successfully passed the GED exam. BOCES administrators and Board of Education members presented students with their certificates, and winners of special awards and scholarships were also announced. Individual program supervisors also awarded "outstanding student" awards.
