The SWBOCES Construction Trades Program introduces students to all aspects of construction industry. Students work at their own pace in a workshop/classroom, where the curriculum begins with lessons on shop safety, identification of tools and their uses, and reading construction plans. Students move on to projects that include the construction of a footstool, boxes, and a wall shelf. The program emphasizes quality of workmanship, and the importance of following instructions and taking accurate measurements.

Students learn the following skills:

  • Carpentry
  • Roofing
  • Heavy equipment
  • Masonry
  • Ceramic tiling
  • Greenhouse
  • Grounds maintenance

In the Construction Trades specialist program, students work on more sophisticated hands-on projects and lessons on installing tile, painting, roofing, plumbing, electrical wiring, insulation and sheetrock.
