Basic Office Skills
The Office Skills Program operates as a simulated office, with classroom
workstations that include telephones. Students completing the one- or two-year
program develop skills in filing and records management, handling and sorting
mail, reception, keyboarding, word processing, data entry, machine transcription,
telephone etiquette, indexing and filing, and copy machine procedures. Students
work on computers, follow written and verbal instructions, use calculators, and work
with computer word-processing and graphic software.
Students who progress to an advanced program in Office Skills can improve on such
skills as word processing, communication, check writing, maintaining petty cash
records, and filling sales orders.
