My Experiences in the School for the Deaf and BOCES/Blind Brook
At the age of 4, I came to the School for the Deaf as kindergarten student. I made a lot of new friends. Since we’re all deaf and hard of hearing students, it was easy for us to communicate and get along with each other. Most of the students and staff were nice people. I was doing really well in my classes. I felt like there was no challenge at all. As I was doing good, the staff became impressed by my work. Then they went to a meeting with my parents. They determined that I should go to a school where there is a more challenging education for me. So they all agreed and had me sent to a public school in 3rd grade. The public school is a good school because they let the BOCES program work for us deaf and hard of hearing students. They offer interpreters, notetakers, and tutors. That really helped me do well in mainstream classrooms. I was able to understand what the teacher says. I was able to pay attention while the notetakers took notes for me. Whenever I’m confused, I could go ask the interpreter or teachers to help me get clarified during learning center or activity period, it wasn’t too hard but still challenging

My Experiences in Tarrytown and Blind Brook/BOCES
Through the times of when I was in Tarrytown I had a hard life in school. Before I even was able to go to 1st grade I had to go to pre-1st. This was because I had a hard time with language and hearing. However as I proceed with my life going to second and third grade, it has gotten harder for me. But as I got to third grade that’s when I realized I was hard of hearing. So as I proceed to fourth and fifth grade it became so difficult that I was actually failing. This was when I got introduced to BOCES. As I was in BOCES at Blind Brook I have improved so much. I got so much help from the teachers at Blind Brook than in Tarrytown. The teachers were so much better because they helped so much with me and even helped me understand the class work and homework. They have so much caring for the kids to be successful.
Halloween
By Christian Prato
It sounded like a whistling cold wind outside. My family and I were getting ready. It was October, Halloween. We were going trick or treating. I was a skeleton pirate with a sword. I was happy and excited.
We went outside trick or treating. I saw more costumes like super heroes, super villains, ghosts, pirates, princes and vampires. We went around the neighborhood and got candy. I met some of my friends. I felt crazy. Because I got a lot of candy and I want to eat some. I was excited because we were outside walking around the whole neighborhood. I did mere Trick or Treating en the way home.
Then we went back home and we had a lot of candy. When I was home, I started to eat some of my candy. Then I went to sleep. It was the best Halloween ever.
